It’s Never Too Late To Become a Photographer

I began my journey in 2017 when I was 29 and I remember how much older I felt compared to the artists around me. There were so many young photographers with years of experience who were already established in the community and to jump into that pool and ‘pretend’ as if I was one of them always felt extremely uncomfortable. It’s a difficult moment to overcome but with enough time, I promise it won’t last forever as long as you’re working on yourself. It took years of consciously making changes in my life, putting myself in uncomfortable positions and having the right relationships that allowed me to build the courage to pursue photography. Before that I truly thought there was something different between me and any artist so I just accepted the fact that I wasn’t one of them. In the grand scheme of things, there was nothing special about them, they were just doing something and I was at home, wasting time and secretly judging others which was a reflection of my own insecurities.

Fear kept me creatively immobile for most of my 20s and I refuse to allow it to control me again. Instead of wasting time thinking of what could have been if I applied myself when I was younger, I just take that energy and apply it to my life today. Stop wasting time on ‘what if’ and embrace wherever you’re at and it’ll add so much value to your life. Now I’m about to turn 36, I’ve released 2 books, been featured in numerous galleries and magazines in the city, shot dozens of concerts, continue to travel for my street photography and built a pretty damn good reputation for my work in my hometown and I’m still just getting started. The beauty of art is that it’s never too late begin the journey so get to work!
