Pushing through stressful days

One of the biggest challenges to overcome as a freelance photographer is learning to be creative during stressful times. Whenever I’m upset I typically don’t want to be in a big crowd interacting with others but as a photographer, you cant pick and choose when those moments come. Once you’re clocked in, it’s your job to make sure you get the best work for your client regardless of what might be going on in your personal life.

When I shot Day Trill back in June 2022, I was going through a lot. Things with the family, my girlfriend and within myself just didn’t allign properly for me on this day so by the time I showed up to the event I was already distracted. Not to mention, it was the hottest day of the year so far and we barley had any shade so the sun was beaming on all of us which made my all black outfit a terrible choice for the day. To top it off, the new sneakers I bought the day before were killing me for some reason so I was just really annoyed. It was a day I was anticipating so much and I was sad all these problems were getting the best of me, but I’ve learned it’s all part of the process so I tried to push through mentally and physically. I had to remind myself that I was in my hometown shooting one of my favorite events with some of the best creatives in the city and I was grateful just to be there.

Theres always so much to gain when going through those experiences so regardless of how tough it might seem, we always come out stronger in the end. A lot of my problems arose from lack of preperation and focus so I’m making sure I’m working out more and doing what I need for my mental clarity especially whenever I’m leading up to a big event. As for the photos, there was a few missed opportunities but I’m really happy with how they turned out. Hope ya’ll enjoy it!
